Parents Buzzing Around

PHRASES like “tiger mom” and “helicopter parent” have made their way into everyday language. But does overparenting hurt, or help?

I came across this article when Scouter Adam posted it on his blog (a blog that is well worth a read by the way)

However I think it is a topic that crosses the pond and can be found on both sides, anyone involved in scouting can probably sit there and identify one or two (and not just moms) of the helicopter parents.

However there is something in this article that all Scout leaders should consider

HANGING back and allowing children to make mistakes is one of the greatest challenges of parenting. It’s easier when they’re young — tolerating a stumbling toddler is far different from allowing a preteenager to meet her friends at the mall. The potential mistakes carry greater risks, and part of being a parent is minimizing risk for our children.

We are in a society where it seem we are not allowed to let children and young people fail everyone has to get a badge or we have to make sure no one loses. I have written about this before and you can read that here
